Some background Hopefully you will find a few things of interest. Over time I hope to provide some content that will help people involved with the types of research that I have been undertaking for a few years, in particular measuring the accuracy of ecological models and conserving birds of prey. There are aslo some statistics notes - but these are not being updated.

About me

My publication history, - a list of my academic publications and some other brief notes about me.

I have been a scientific advisor to the various Irish bird of prey re-introduction programmes, an expert advisor to a study of the possible impacts of wind farms on hen harriers in Ireland being undertaken by the University College Cork. I am currently a member of the Scottish Natural Heritage Scientific Advisory Committee Experts Panel. I am also an external examiner for the MSc Ecological Consultancy at Newcastle University..

I am a director of a charity called Highland Renewal, which manages a small, but beautiful estate on the south west tip of the Island of Mull. You can also find details of a long term field experiment on the estate at http://www.bioscience.heacademy.ac.uk/hosted/tireragan/.

Featured Place: Traigh Ghael beach

Traigh Ghael beach on the Tireragan estate

Traigh Ghael beach is on the small estate managed by Highland Renewal. This is a beautiful wild place with internationally important species and habitats. You are free to wander but beware the tracks are rough, wet and often overgrown. It is not an easy place to walk, you will get wet feet and brambles can be a problem but you will be rewarded by the peace and the views.
